ABOUT
US
Cynthia Fernandez MN, FNP-BC is an ANCC Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. She has recently relocated to the Monterey Peninsula area from Schweinfurt, Germany where she provided primary healthcare to U.S. military soldiers and their families as well as nutrition and wellness counseling.
She is a graduate of California State University Long Beach where she received her BSN degree and also a Public Health Nurse Certification. She then continued her education and training at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia upon which she received a Master’s Degree in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner Degree specializing in Family Practice. Cynthia has trained and worked in various clinical settings including teaching hospitals and clinics across the United States and overseas.
Her travels have leant an opportunity to explore new cultures and people and as a result has a better understanding of diverse patient populations and incorporates culturally sensitive healthcare delivery. Fluent in Spanish and English, Cynthia has also studied German and French.
She is passionate about Patient Education. She has worked in Southern California in a hospital setting through the Department of Education as a Patient Education Coordinator where she created Patient Education books and also taught staff how to enhance patient understanding and education in a medical setting and across different literacy levels. She believes whole heartily that an empowered patient is a knowledgeable patient that will reach better healthcare outcomes. She is also a strong advocate of health promotion and counsels on healthy lifestyle modifications through diet and exercise.
She was born and raised in Southern California and now lives in Monterey with her spouse. Her family is from Ecuador. In her free time she enjoys attending group cardio exercise classes and taking long walks with her 6 year old Maltese. Although happy to be back in the states, she hopes to continue traveling.
