Evangelina Martinez, M.D. is a board-certified Family
Medicine physician with the American Board of Family Medicine.
Before relocating to the Monterey Peninsula with her husband,
she practiced medicine for 20 years in Southern California.
She is a graduate of the Stanford University School of Medicine,
and completed her Internships and Residency at UCLA Medical
Center and UC Irvine Medical Center respectively. Dr. Martinez
is fluent in both Spanish and English.
Growing up in a large family in Southern California influenced
her decision to specialize in Family Medicine. Even as a
young girl, Dr. Martinez observed that family history and family
dynamics profoundly influence the health and well-being of each
family member.
Physicians who specialize in Family Medicine provide more
comprehensive health care than Internists or General
Practitioners. Family Medicine physicians not only focus on the
complaint, but also consider other factors that impact
health and well-being, such as, family relationships, living
situations, education or employment challenges and nutrition.
Dr. Martinez has been especially successful in encouraging her
patients to adopt practical changes in their lives. These
practical changes include: making better food choices or
adopting better cooking techniques, allowing for more activity
in day to day life, setting realistic weight goals, and finding
a better balance that decreases the risk of developing serious
diseases, such as, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease
and cancer.
Dr. Martinez is the mother of four kids, and has two dogs and
two cats. To keep in shape, Dr.
Martinez enjoys biking with her husband when she is not playing
league level tennis.
