Terry Franklin, MD, FAAFP specializes in delivering personalized preventative healthcare to every patient he serves. By integrating Eastern and Western philosophies in his private practice, Dr. Franklin has pioneered a creative approach to healthcare, coined: Appreciative Medicine™. This philosophical approach to medicine views health and life as a continuum of your physical, emotional and psychological being as well as a spiritual quest. Appreciative Medicine™ truly fosters a partnership between the patient and practitioner, focusing on achieving optimal health.
As a Board-certified physician and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Dr. Franklin holds advanced degrees in chemistry and medicine. He completed graduate medical studies at East North Carolina University and trained at The London Hospital Medical College, University of London, England. He is credentialed in Medical Acupuncture though the University of California at Los Angeles School of Medicine, and has completed advanced study in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
While at the University Health Systems of Eastern North Carolina, Dr. Franklin authored and was the primary investigator of studies on treating coronary heart disease through lifestyle modifications. An experienced educator, he has presented at numerous seminars and workshops and has been a guest speaker at major medical conventions throughout the nation. He is the recipient of many honors for academic, scholastic and research achievements, and was recently recognized as one of the “50 Outstanding Family Physicians in the State of California”, by the California Academy of Family Physicians.
In 2009 Terry Franklin, MD was appointed to serve as the first of the very select MDVIP physicians on the Monterey Peninsula. This strict and rigorous selection process requires an accomplished, dedicated and specialized physician to keep an intimate practice of up to 600 patients. This practice size allows Dr. Franklin to spend valuable time with his patients and perform comprehensive physical exams that provide treatment of acute and chronic illnesses with a preventative and wellness approach.
Dr. Franklin currently practices at the Ryan Ranch Medical Group in Monterey, one of the most highly regarded practices in the tri-county area.

Lola Steinbaum is a Board Certified Physician of Internal Medicine, a Member of the American College of Physicians and a special pioneer in women's wellness and weight management.
She received her baccalaureate degree in Chemistry with Honors from the University of Michigan, and her Medical Degree, Cum Laude, from the Harvard School of Medicine.
Before completing her residency at Stanford University Hospital, Dr. Steinbaum completed a two year tour of the Third World where she worked with international agencies to provide much needed health care and medical relief to underdeveloped communities. After completion of her relief work, Dr.
Steinbaum studied Cardiology and ICU medicine at the prestigious Hospital Laennec in Paris, France.
After one year in Emergency Room medicine, she
began her career in private practice in 1978, then took a maternity leave of absence in 1997, and resumed consultative internal medicine in 2002.
Among Dr. Steinbaum's many professional accomplishments was her appointment as Chief of Medicine at the Community Hospital of Monterey (CHOMP), and her subsequent tenure as Chief of Staff in 1992-1993.
Dr. Steinbaum's phenomenal professional background and experiences have shaped her world view of
medicine and humanity. She values diversity and desires to work with her patients to create their own optimal health care choices.
Dr. Alex E Torres is the newest member to the Ryan Ranch Medical Group in beautiful Monterey, CA. Dr. Torres was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and is fluent in Spanish. He was a high school basketball and volleyball all star player. In 1997 after being rookie of the year in the professional volleyball league and champions he was invited to play for the Puerto Rican Volleyball National Team. Later that year he received an athletic scholarship to attend George Williams College in Downers Grove, Illinois.
George Williams College is the YMCA University which specializes in human services careers. While at George Williams Dr. Torres was selected three times to the All American Team, won the Small College (NAIA) National title two times and in 1979 he was selected in the USA World University games team. In 1981 he was selected the Most Valuable Player of the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association and was invited to train with the U.S.A. Volleyball Olympic team in San Diego, CA.
Dr. Torres completed his internship at South Baltimore University of Maryland and John Hopkins University. After his internship he completed a Family Medicine residency at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
From 1991 to 1996 he was the clinical instructor at the University of California, San Diego Medicine School.
In 1996, Dr. Torres had the honor of being selected as team doctor for the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA, perhaps one of Dr. Torres’ greatest accomplishments in medicine.
Dr. Torres has been board certified in Family Medicine for 21 years. In 1994 he became fellow of the American Academy of Family Physician’s and has been a member of this organization for more then 25 years. Dr. Torres has been a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine for over 20 years.
Dr. Torres is also a Qualified Medical Examiner by the California Industrial Medicine Commissioner.
In 2011 he became Board Certified in Anti Aging and Functional Medicine; he graduated from the Anti Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine in December of 2012. He became Board Certified in Integrative and Holistic Medicine in December 2012 and was also elected to the American College of Anti Aging Sports Medicine Professionals.
Dr. Torres has been a Volleyball Master National Champion 12 times, selected to the first team All American 6 times and was the Most Valuable Player of the tournament once in 1995. In October 2011, Dr. Torres was inducted into the Rio Piedras (University City of Puerto Rico) Sports Hall of Fame.
For over the past 20 years Dr. Torres has been a consultant for many amateur, Olympic and professional athletes. In his spare time Dr. Torres likes traveling, reading, going to concerts, wine tasting and walking his dog.
Amy Seinfeld, D.O. is a Board Certified Family Practitioner. She has been board certified for 15 years. Dr. Seinfeld graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1998. She completed her Internship at St John’s Episcopal in Far Rockaway, New York and completed Residency at North Shore Hospital in Long Island, New York.
Dr. Seinfeld has worked in various settings including private practice and urgent care. Her focus is on Prevention, Women's Health & Aesthetics.
Dr. Seinfeld’s interests are in helping her patients to live a quality life and feel good both physically and mentally. Throughout the years she has helped many patients in the areas of weight loss, smoking cessation and aesthetics.
Shahnaz “Shawna” Otanian is a Physician Associate who graduated from the Duke University PA program in 1999 with a Master’s Degree in Health Sciences. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from San Francisco State University.
Above all, Shahnaz believes that a strong patient-provider relationship that involves patients in the decision making process for their health decisions, holds the key to promoting healing and change. Over the years, Shahnaz has developed an interest and expertise in combining alternative medicine with her traditional training in order to give her patients a more holistic and comprehensive approach to healing. She recommends herbs, supplements and encourages her patients to seek other modalities like Acupuncture, Yoga, Meditation and physical activity to enhance their medical treatments. Her practice includes hormone balancing for men and women (including thyroid issues), women’s health, diabetes care and education, chronic disease management, lifestyle adjustment, nutrition and weight management counseling.
In her free time, Shahnaz enjoys the outdoors, animals, cooking and traveling. She looks forward to going home every day where her orange tabby cat, “Tiger”, greets her at the door.
Larry Rose, P.A-C, is a National Board Certified Physician Assistant. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Oklahoma Health and Sciences Center as well as certifications in Hyperbaric Medicine at John Hopkins University and as an Exercise Technician at the American College of Sports Medicine.
With 30+ years as a Physician Assistant, he has a wide-working knowledge in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Urgent Care and Cardio-Pulmonary Medicine. This experience, along with his caring manner, allows him to educate his patients about their health and get them on back on track.
His interest in Sports Medicine takes him back to college days as a miler for the University of Oklahoma, winning all-American honors and running Oklahoma's first sub-4 minute mile. He has been married for over 25 years to his wife, Carole. Together they share an active and healthy lifestyle. Their passion for nature and birdlife takes them on adventures throughout North and South America.
